2012 is a LEAP YEAR!
Literally, Mass L.E.A.P. Collective (Literary Education & Performance) is set to launch the first ever State-Wide Youth Poetry Slam Festival in Massachusetts and we could use your help!
Louder than a Bomb, is the name of the wildly popular, life changing youth poetry program, developed in Chicago. 10 years strong now, it’s the biggest youth poetry slam in the world and subject of a recent documentary! Mass LEAP Collective is following this amazing model, and are inviting over a dozen Massachusetts Communities to participate, compete, share poetry and connect across geographic, socio-economic & cultural borders.
The festival will take place March30th-April 1st, at MIT (through generous support from the MIT 80 Proof Poets Campus Club). There will be a finals showcase event on Friday April 13th at a venue TBD. The four days will feature workshops, poetry slams, open mics and special performances. Check out www.massleapcollective.org to keep up with all the good news.
This is our first year attempting this. We have work groups, volunteers and interns dedicated to making this event blast off! We have a dedicated fiscal sponsor in the MassPoetry Outreach Project, a 501(c)3 Non-Profit, who have been working closely with us this past year. They have set up a special coded donation page, so that our supporters can donate directly online, using their safe, secure page. Donations over a certain amount will also be eligible for tax deductions.

We are looking to raise $5,000 in the next month. This will cover a decent portion of our expenses, will help generate materials used for the festival, secure a finals venue, reward volunteers and help facilitate all the odds and ends that go into an undertaking of this size. We expect to serve several hundred Massachusetts Youth in our first year.
