Our next deadline is March 1 for a special “Green” theme Spring issue. For this issue, we will be collaborating with Unity College in Unity, Maine, which has built its curriculum on the environment and environmental law. Editorial decisions are not made until after the deadline. Poets & artists will be notified by mid-April on the status of their submission.
Amethyst Arsenic- he current reading period for the Summer 2012 issue is February 15, 2012 – May 15, 2012. We use a Submission Manager, and our guidelines are included both here and there. Please follow our guidelines, or your submission may be declined.
Amethyst Arsenic is open to all forms of poetry and art. Within this broad scope, we have a preference for well-crafted imagery that brings a fresh use of language and perception. We also lean towards vignettes, moments, stories and meditations on people, objects, and scenes; the intimate whether confessional or persona, versus broad commentary. For an idea of our aesthetic, please check out our archives page and links page for publications we admire. We want the best work we can find, so we’re open to both new and established poets. If you have any questions or technical issues with our submission process, please email admin[at]amethystarsenic.com. We will respond to polite inquiries. Poetry Guidelines: Please submit 3 to 5 poems (using our submission manager) in a SINGLE Microsoft Word (doc, docx), or Rich Text (rtf). Name the file LastName-FirstName-Poetry.[doc|docx|rtf]. DO NOT submit poems separately; doing so can increase our operations costs, so we will promptly reject those submissions. In the Submission Title entry of the submission form, enter FirstName Lastname – # poems. We prefer that poems have titles. If not, we will use the first line as the title.
Ballard Street Poetry Journal (annual publication) opened its submissions on January 1st. Accepting e-mail submission only. Send 3-6 original, unpublished poems in the body of your e-mail. Send us your strongest work. Include a brief, professional note including a 30 word or less bio and your contact information. Do not send greeting card verse, or preachy religious or political work. As much as we all love nature, please select your nature-themed pieces carefully as we are inundated with them. Formatting your submission: Do not place your contact information between each poem only include it at the beginning of your e-mail. Although you may have a lot to say about yourself, keep your bio at the 30 word or less minimum. Bold all poem titles. Although we require no line limit, shorter poems are preferred. Long poems considered, but we accept very few. Simultaneous submissions not accepted. Response time is 3-6 months. Please be patient. If you have not heard from us within the time frame, e-mail the editor with “Submission Inquiry” in the subject line. Understand that we are a small volunteer-run press and we all have day jobs.
