There’s so much poetry in Worcester, it’s taking to the streets – come on out before the reading on Sunday for poetry all day all day all day! This year stART on the Street will be hosting a poetry tent, and from 11am-5pm, poets from venues all over the city will be be performing – natch, hijinx shall ensue.

This year, I’m excited to announce that Worcester Poetry Groups have a special place to perform at this year’s stART on the Street Festival.
Park Avenue will be blocked off from Pleasant to Highland Streets. Thousands of people, hundreds of local vendors and performers will be participating, and Worcester Poetry will take the stage in our very own space! The first ever Poetry / Spoken Word Tent will highlight all the readings and groups that work hard to promote poetry in our city.
There will be something for everyone and something going on throughout the day – schedule below the cut.
11am-11:40am – The Worcester County Poetry Association will be offering a showcase from various members. www.wcpa.homestead.com
11:40-12pm – The Ballard Street Poetry Journal will showcase a few of their published authors. Hosted by Jenith Charpentier .
12pm-12:30pm – The Worcester Youth Poetry Slam Team will be performing. These teens made semi-finals at this years Brave New Voices Festival in San Francisco, California. www.worcesteryouthslam.com
12:30-1pm – Featured Poet TONY BROWN, former poets Asylum Host, Worcester Slam Team Member, Duende Project Frontman and one of the most respected names in local & national performance poetry circles.
1pm-1:30 – Jus Words North – Worcester’s newest poetry and music show, will be offering a showcase, featuring newest Worcesterite, the well-traveled, talented Qaadir Williams.
1:30-2pm – The Clark University Poetry Slam Club Showcase
2-3pm – Poetry Slam Demonstration. $50 cash prize, open to all who wish to compete. Sign-up by 1pm to reserve your spot. We’ll take the first 8 poets. Bring two family friendly poems (PG) 3 minutes or less in length. We’ll choose judges from the audience and crown a champ for the day. Hosted by Alex Charalambides
3-3:30pm – The Poets Asylum – Worcester’s longest running performance poetry series. Home of the Worcester Poetry Slam. www.poetsasylum.org
3:30-4pm – The Dirty Gerund Poetry Show – Ralph’s Diner’s Monday Night Ruckus w/ Music, Snacks, Game Shows, and yes some poetry mixed in there are well. Hosted by Nicholas Earl Davis. www.dirtygerund.com
4-4:30pm – The Poetry Cove Monthly Series is a hip, welcoming spot that runs out of Cigar Masters on Exchange Street, managed by Elite Promotions.
4:30-5pm – The Little “a” Poetry Series is back up and running again at the Strange Attractor (97 Webster St). This Thursday Night Series is run by Cowboy Matthew Hopewell and often features the best in local word smiths.
