December 18th – Dave Keali’i & Yankee Swap Slam

Standard
Join us this week as Dave Keali’i comes back to visit from the wilds of library science in gorgeous Hawaii! David Keali‘i is a Native Hawaiian poet who was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts. In 2009 he represented the city of Worcester, Massachusetts with four other poets at the National Poetry Slam. His work also appears in Assaracus, Radius, and Mauri Ola: Contemporary Polynesian Poetry in English (Whetu Moana, Volume II). He is a Master’s of Library and Information Science candidate at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa and his first collection is forthcoming from Kuleana ʻōiwi press.Welcome home, Dave!
After the feature,  Poet’s Asylum will be celebrating the holiday season by helping you hear great poetry and maybe even get a present for that special someone.  HA!  We’ll provide the worst poems we can find (attached to some of the greatest swag ever) and poets will battle it out to out perform each other.  Bring a friend!  The more the merrier.  Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7p.  Free and all ages; open mic to start. We’ll be at the WCUW Frontroom (910 Main Street, Worcester) – see you there!
