Nov 4 – Chris August

Standard

In 2011, Chris August was named the number one ranked performance poet in the United States at the Individual World Poetry Slam held n Cleveland, Ohio. This was the culmination of ten years of involvement in national slam scene, representing Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, DC at the National Poetry Slam and the Individual World Poetry Slam. In 2012, he left his job as a special educator to pursue poetry full time. Later that year, he represented the United States at the Poetry World Cup in Paris, France where he was ranked second in the world. His latest book, A Life Called Special, is a compilation of his poetry about special needs education. October 28 – Dead Poet Slam

Standard

After our usual open mic, we’ll be taking oldies (but goodies!) and applying scores. You think you can rock it like some published dead word-rockstar once did? Bring it! Sarah will be offering up some of her own personal (dead) favorites if you have the guts but need the glory.  We’re toying with the idea of bobbing for apples, and there will very likely be candy. Doors at 6:30, show at 7 – always an open mic, always all ages and free free free; coffee and snacks by donation.

October 21 – Extended Open Mic & Derek Avila

Standard

After a whole five to ten minutes of ‘you’ time, we’ll get to hear Manchester, NH’s own Derek Avila.  Derek was on the Slam Free of Die 2012 slam team and routinely brings the goods up north – he’s a quick-talkin’ monster with a soft caramel middle, and we can’t wait to have him grace our stage. Doors at 6:30, show at 7 – always an open mic, always all ages and free free free; coffee and snacks by donation.

October 14 – Liz Heath!

Standard

This week, after our brilliant open mic, we’ll be welcoming our even brilliant-er Liz Heath!  She’s been rocking as our fearless host and we can’t wait to hear what she’s been up to on the page. Heath has been writing and performing poetry for over six years now (seven? Eight?) Sister has been at this a minute). She began hosting the open mic and poetry slam at the Poet’s Asylum in Worcester three years ago, and now shares the title of co-slam master at the Asylum. Heath was on the 2011 Poet’s Asylum Slam Team, and competed at the 2011 Nationals, and she has two chapbooks Rearranging the Alphabet  and This is My Therapy, with her name on them. Doors at 6:30, show at 7 – always an open mic, always all ages and free free free; coffee and snacks by donation.

October 7th – Robyn Bateman & Meg Waldron

Standard

Meg Waldron is a writer, traveler, and YouTube enthusiast. She was a member of the 2011 Portland Poetry Slam team and competitor at the National Poetry Slam in Boston, Massachusetts. She is the author of a chapbook, Sex, Drugs, Tuck n’ Roll (2011), and Meg’s spirit animal is a baby deer with wings. Robyn Bateman is the reigning City Champion of Portland, and was a finalist at the 2011 Individual World Poetry Slam and a 2012 competitor at the Women of the World Poetry Slam. Robyn has two chapbooks and has been published in a number of poetry and fiction journals. In the email about their booking, your blogmistress misread the subject line and wasn’t sure what to do with the information that Batman & Robin were featuring this week. Doors at 6:30, show at 7 – always an open mic, always all ages and free free free; coffee and snacks by donation.
